“Dark chocolate, mineral, dried spice and blackberry aromas are tinged with an earthy tree bark influence. Layers of berry fruit & plum jam are finely tuned to the richly integrated tannins. A slight drying on the finish leaves the lasting impression that this firmly structured, tightly wound behemoth will showcase Howell Mountain attributes to those with 3 to 5 years of patience.” – Mike McGrath, Winemaker
MORE ABOUT THIS WINE
- Price: $45
- Blend: 100% Cabernet Sauvignon
- Vineyards: The Hughes Vineyard is located on the western rim of Bell Canyon in the Howell Mountain AVA and is known for magnificently complex wines of earthy austerity and elegant robustness. The soils are of volcanic origin, shallow and infertile, and irrigation is often essential. At 1,650 feet above sea lever, the vineyard avoids the influences of fog that often blanket the valley floor below. Water retention is poor, producing vines with low vigor and deep roots. Small berries offer densely colored, concentrated wines. Warm, dry days followed by cool nights due to the higher elevation help maintain the fruit’s natural acidity and character.
- ALC: 14.75% TA: .54g pH: 3.68
