AVA map Since the famed release of its inaugural 1974 vintage, Conn Creek Winery has firmly established itself among Napa's heritage Cabernet wineries.

Winemaker Mike McGrath concentrates on two winemaking objectives-producing Cabernet Sauvignon from each of Napa's 14 sub-appellations yielding wines with a"taste of place," and creating Anthology, a Bordeaux-style wine, from the best appellation Cabernets showcasing a"taste of place" and the"blender's art."

Conn Creek's commitment to produce single bottlings of Cabernet Sauvignon from all of the official sub-appellations within the valley is a unique opportunity for wine enthusiast to appreciate the differences found in Napa's premier vineyard sites. The wines are available exclusively at the winery and to wine club members.

Characteristics
Plum and red berry fruit with integrated oak spice. Flavors of blackberries and vanilla. An elegantly styled wine with lingering fruit and integrated, soft tannins. Best served with duck breast or pork sirloin.
Vineyard Source
The vineyard is located on the Silverado Trail in the East foothills of the Southern part of the Stags Leap district. Soils are volcanic gravel-loam with hard clay bedrock underneath. Though moderately warm with afternoon marine winds acting as a natural "air conditioner," Stags Leap is often up to 10 degrees warmer than neighboring Yountville. Wines are typically distinguished by perfumed cherry aromas and red berry flavors, supported by soft tannins and a velvety texture.

Hughes Vineyard is located on the western rim of Bell Canyon in the Howell Mountain AVA. The soils are of volcanic origin, shallow and infertile, and irrigation is often essential. Small berries offer densely colored concentrated wines. Warm, dry days followed by cool nights due to the higher elevation help maintain the fruit’s natural acidity and character.

Characteristics
Densely concentrated aromas of plums, black cherries, oak bark and cinnamon toast are nicely displayed in an elegant oak framework. Supple, black fruit flavors crest to blackberries, then ebb to a rich lingering finish. Enjoyable now, will age best over the next 4 -6 years.

Bill and Kathleen Collins, the founders of Conn Creek Winery, farm this vineyard on the valley floor in the St. Helena AVA to the south of Calistoga. This block-selected Cabernet Sauvignon is emblematic of a microclimate that produces ripe and jam-flavored wines with distinctive fine tannins. Because of its valley location, locked between the hills, this AVA tends to be very warm with minimal fog intrusion. The soils are primarily sedimentary and gravelly clay loam with medium to low water retention.

Newton Vineyard Mt Veeder is located in the Mt.Veeder AVA. This small AVA is nestled in the Mayacamas Mountains overlooking the southern opening of the Napa Valley. The steep slopes and thin soils result in intense and chewy wines with magnificent spice and distinctive berry fruit flavors. At 1400 feet this block is found above the fog line. The vineyard sees warmer nights and cooler days than the valley floor.

Dark chocolate, mineral, dried spice and blackberry aromas are tinged with an earthy tree bark influence. Layers of berry fruit & plum jam are finely tuned to the richly integrated tannins. A slight drying on the finish leaves the lasting impression that this firmly structured, tightly wound behemoth will showcase Howell Mountain attributes to those with 3 to 5 years of patience.

Hozhoni Vineyard is located on the eastern side of the Silverado Trail in the Rutherford benchland. The soils are of volcanic origin. The word "Hozhoni" means "peaceful resting place" in the Navajo language. The vineyard is owned by John and Lois Mueller.
