
Since the famed release of its inaugural 1974 vintage, Conn Creek Winery has firmly established itself among Napa's heritage Cabernet wineries.
Winemaker Mike McGrath concentrates on two winemaking objectives-producing Cabernet Sauvignon from each of Napa's 14 sub-appellations yielding wines with a"taste of place," and creating Anthology, a Bordeaux-style wine, from the best appellation Cabernets showcasing a"taste of place" and the"blender's art."
Conn Creek's commitment to produce single bottlings of Cabernet Sauvignon from all of the official sub-appellations within the valley is a unique opportunity for wine enthusiast to appreciate the differences found in Napa's premier vineyard sites. Characteristics

Bill and Kathleen Collins, the founders of Conn Creek Winery, farm this vineyard on the valley floor in the St. Helena AVA to the south of Calistoga. This block-selected Cabernet Sauvignon is emblematic of a microclimate that produces ripe and jam-flavored wines with distinctive fine tannins. Because of its valley location, locked between the hills, this AVA tends to be very warm with minimal fog intrusion. The soils are primarily sedimentary and gravelly clay loam with medium to low water retention.

Conn Creek's Rutherford Estate Vineyard surrounds the winery on three acres first planted in 1980 and replanted in 2001. Cortina gravelly loam soil, found in only 0.2% of the Napa Valley, is specific to the vineyard. Warmer on average than both Oakville and Stags Leap District, Rutherford AVA produces wines with jammy, ripe berry aromas and flavors complemented by a supple mouthfeel and layers of complexity.

The vineyard is located on the Silverado Trail in the East foothills of the Southern part of the Stags Leap district. Soils are volcanic gravel-loam with hard clay bedrock underneath. Though moderately warm with afternoon marine winds acting as a natural "air conditioner," Stags Leap is often up to 10 degrees warmer than neighboring Yountville. Wines are typically distinguished by perfumed cherry aromas and red berry flavors, supported by soft tannins and a velvety texture.

Owned and operated by the Eisele family for over three decades, this organically-farmed vineyard is located in central Chiles Valley AVA in the northeastern part of Napa Valley. This Cabernet Sauvignon is produced in a microclimate known for colder winter and spring seasons which lead to generally later harvests than on the valley floor, and for soils that are marine-based in origin. Chiles Valley Cabernets stand apart for their succulent blackberry flavors. These lush fruit notes balance the firmness of the tannins and taut acidity.
